Do people who are double jointed have more of a chance of getting arthritis?

March 11th, 2010
  • I'm 23 and my hands are double jointed. They constantly ache and sometime feel like it's a task to open my hands...mostly my left one (I am right handed.)

How old do people usually get arthritis? Usually in their 50's right? could that be my problem or could it be something else like carpal tunnel?

    Thanks in advance.

  • I would have it checked out by a professional. You can get arthritis at age 6 or so, you don't have to be in your 50's. The earlier you get it checked out, the better chance of having something done [not cured - as there is still no cure - but treated].

  • thats a good question.. and not sure if i can answer.. my guess is if you are one of those people that keep showing people and moving the joints then its possible

  • No.

  • Yes. I have arthritis and I'm 19.

If you are double jointed or have laxed joints it means you most likely have Hyper Mobility Syndrome (which I have too).

If you have Hyper Mobility Syndrome you're more prone to joint disorders such as arthritis.

If you're having pain you should take to your doctor. There are simple blood tests that can be done to test for inflammation of the joints.

Arthritis can effect anyone at any age. I have had it for the past 8 years.
